hi, I bought a new computer recently and i moved the c: drive from the old comp to the new one - now as d:. after the move i remembered that i had some outlook messages saved on the old drive, but i'm not quite sure how to access them. i tried just booting from d: using the old windows installation (and use the old outlook installation) but for some reason when i get to the welcome screen the mouse and keyboard do not work - thus no way to log in. what to do?

Ummm, sorry, but more than likely your old install is not going ot be booting in your new computer because of hardware differences, primarily - remember that Windows uses drivers to laod setting for the different hardware - and not just simple things like your video card, but very complex things, like the motherboard chipset, the CPU, the version of ACPI that your motherboard uses, the type of sound card, the USB ports, etc....

It will be easier for you to move the files from your old HD to your new HD since you are in this position. Follow these links:

Close Outlook.

Check out this page to find your current .pst file location. Navigate to the file and make a copy as a backup.

Open Outlook and use Import to retrieve your messages from the D: drive - you will need to point to the old .pst file, which should be found on a similar path to your current one, but on D: instead of C:

thank you all for helping out... i did end up finding my .pst file and i transfered it in, but i think there are still some stuff missing... the reason i wanted to boot from the old installation is because i had outlook express and outlook 2007 each with multiple identities and i was getting really confused, so i thought I'd just revert to the old windows so i could see it the way it was before... i was thinking of doing a repair on the old installation, would that fix things up?

you'd need all your old hardware and the old drive back in that machine, but other than that you would have no problem running it again as it was before....you could miss smaller things like an external USB drive or such, but the motherboard will need to be the same, and the Video card *should* be the same, else the OS will probably run at a crappy 800 X 600 resolution using only 16 colors.
