i started up windows vista and after i saw the green loading line it brought me to a black screen with windows vista written in white on top and it was showing me a registry file path that i could not read quick enough because the file path kept changing like when you scan a computer. then it brought me to the configuring updates screen as if i installed something from windows update but i did not. it showed the first of three stage but never rose above zero percent complete. finally it asked me to sign in. what is this?

Did you have Windows Vista Service Pack 1 already? Do you have automatic updates enabled. It could be that it downloaded Service Pack 1. At startup it may have been completing the update and asking you about the automatic update options.
