|
|
hi,
i cloned a windows machine (XPSP3) to a group of pc's for my classroom. Everything went fine, but everytime when i want to change the computername of the cloned systems in the network settings, it can be changed, but after a reboot it remains the old name.
Maybe the error happened when i setup the master machine, which was also cloned from a running system in another classroom.
The network i use is not a domain network, its just a workgroup. so it can't be a SID issue.
Sorry for my bad english. Thank you in advance,
jojo

What did you use to do the cloning? _________________ IT Stuff

hi the machines got a reborn card installed, which is used to secure the hdd. I used the reborn card software to clone the discs.
but i think the error happened before, when I cloned the master system from a different System. It has the same problem as the other clones. For the cloning of this machine i used acronis software.

I'm going to make a guess at something which may give you a clue to the problem. You stated these are classroom computers and they have a reborn card. I do not know the reborn card, but it sounds like a product which prevents students from making changes to the classroom computers. I am going to guess that this is also preventing you from changing the computer names. You may want to reread the manual for the reborn card's clone utility for instructions on how the computer name or anything else can be changed.
