I installed the program a few days ago. This program seemed to spot a number of threats that my previous program (from Computer Associates) seems to have missed. So, though I can't speak definitively about it's virus spotting ability, it seems like it's pretty good.

There are a few things about it I don't like. First of all, a few weeks back I installed the non-pro edition of this software, and it caused quite a headache. It seems as though the software was configured to check floppy drives, cd drives etc. And when there wasn't a floppy to be found, the whole thing just crapped out. It took a number of safe mode restarts for me to figure out what was going on and get rid of the software. I don't know why, but I decided to take a chance on this Pro edition. Although this one can check removable drives, it doesn't seem to hang when there is no media. Whew!

Another thing I don't like about it, is that I don't feel confident that it is actually doing the removal/quarantine. I set it to automatically delete nasty files, and I can see in the log that it found some, but nothing in the log indicates that they were deleted. Finally, I don't have much to compare it against, but I'd say its scans are pretty slow. My computer has about 48Gig of files, and the full system scan (it's a P3 500Mhz) took about 24 hours of dedicated time. It actually took more time because every once in a while it would come across a password protected file (Kazaa shop files, I think) and it would stop and wait for user input. I didn't see any setting to have it automatically skip the files without prompting. That was pretty annoying. Overall, I'd say I'm not too impressed with it.

I find this product perfect in every way. As a Security Programmer I love everything in this product. I know most people do not like the speed it requires or how much it slows down the system. I have never had a problem running it and it crashing or anything like that. The configuration is so easy to use, my wife set it up herself on a new computer when i was sick. As i said it is very slow on an older machine. But if you have an older machine, chances are you are not doing alot of downloading and online games and such where stuff can get in easily. I would recomend this to anyone who has a very nice machine and is open in some way, either due to a game or a server etc... I would not recomend this to someone who just surfs the web, gets email and plays a few in browser games. Personally if you do that, get AVG. Its very nice for such things.

To change the slow scanning speeds try
Configure On-Demand Scan > On-Demand Scan Settings > Do not scan packed executable files / Do not scan archives
You''ll still be procted by the real time protection when you open packed executables.

I have KAV personal Pro since a long time now ; the software is able to scan in depth 300GO in three or4 hours which is amazing ; this is an in depth analysis

Yeah the speed is amazing;-) What takes KAV 4 hours, NOD32 would manage twice or more times faster with much better heuristic detection of not yet known threats, including spyware. I don''t intend to bash KAV, but when it comes to speed, system impact and proactive detection of new threats, nothing compares to NOD32.

When you get one password protected file a message window would appear.Below would be some thing like Apply this settings to all pass protected archives in this session.Check that option and it wont ask for pass again.

Kav''s Scanning is slow indeed, but it does a good job.
